What goes into making a brand?
First thing is vision. Most of us have sight but no vision. Most times we are stuck on what is directly in front of us and forgo all else. Life makes us reactionary instead of radical. We are taught to be cautious, play everything close-to-the-vest. Some people such as Matt Booth, creator of Room 101 Brand, has vision.
Quality goes a long way. Starting as a jewelry company specializing in stainless steel, bead and leather goods, Room 101 Brand, has become a stogie staple. Once Room 101 Brand, merged with Camacho, quality would no longer be a question.
Presence. Some people have that knack. Matt Booth is one of them. People are drawn to him. He has this “California cool” attitude combined with Zen like focus. Forget boutique blend stogies- he created the first spa quality blend. Room 101’s Namakubi is a fabulous smoke. These sticks are to be noticed!
Last Thursday, the LIB team hung out at Flame Fine Cigar with the brainchild of Room 101 Brand, Matt Booth. This left coast guy came east to the picturesque Village of Patchogue. We welcomed him with the “three Ses” steaks, shrimp and stogies.
Booth produces 12 different sticks. They are all high quality Honduran origin. I have tried a few of them. The Room 101 Habano is a traditional smoke. The Room 101 Habano is a nice stick but I personally enjoyed the Namakubi more.
The Namakubi is a full bodied heavy cigar. The phrase Namakubi is Japenese inspired and means to decapitate another. This dark stogie is what is right with the industry. This stick is the standard other Habanos should be held up to.
