Spring Into Collecting And Bring New Art Into Your Life From Alex Ferrone Gallery.

Alex Ferrone Gallery in Cutchogue opens a new season of art with their fourth edition of the Spring into Collecting Exhibit on May 11, and will celebrate the artists with a free public reception on Saturday, May 18 from 6-8pm. Exhibiting artists are: Patricia Beary, Karen Bell, *Lucy Dewitt, Alex Ferrone, Richard Gardner, Ray Germann, Gerry Giliberti, Katherine Liepe-Levinson, Mike McLaughlin, Barbara Macklowe, Robert Mielenhausen, Jim Sabiston, Steven Schreiber, Mac Titmus, and Pamela Waldroup.
Spring into Collecting runs through June 23, 2019.
Presented for the fine art admirer and collector is an eclectic selection of works by fifteen regional artists from New York City and Long Island. Artwork of diverse styles and varied techniques will be exhibited including traditional photography, mixed media, and sculptural photo constructions. Numerous printing methods will also be showcased and include works on vellum with gold leaf, images on Dibond, Mylar, aluminum, and acrylic, as well as, hand-painted silver gelatin prints. Artists will also have a selection of unframed limited edition prints available that will provide a varied price structure for the new buyer or the collector.

Patricia Beary: Wantagh, NY
Patricia Beary is a fine art photographer and art educator from Long Island, New York. Strongly influenced by her fine art background, Ms. Beary’s photographs explore a variety of themes, and she aligns herself with the pictorialists who emphasize beauty, tonality, and composition, rather than documentation of reality. Patricia is a member of Soho Photo Gallery in New York and has exhibited in the U.S., Italy and Japan. Recognized with the 2014 Julia M. Cameron Award in fine art photography, Patricia’s work was included in the 3rd International Biennial of Fine Art and Documentary Photography in Malaga, Spain. Recently retired, Ms. Beary continues teaching experimental photography workshops with the Image Factory.
Karen Bell: New York, NY
Karen Bell received her MFA in Photography from RISD. Her photographs and artist books have been exhibited widely including at The Brooklyn Museum, Ellis Island Immigration Museum, and White Columns, NYC, among others. Public and private collections include Brooklyn Museum, New York Public Library, Ellis Island Museum, and Pfizer Pharmaceutical and more. She has received grants from LMCC/Governors Island, The New School, Womens Interart Center, NYC, as well as, fellowships to Yaddo and Virginia Center for the Creative Arts. Karen teaches at The Brooklyn Botanic Garden in New York City and offers private workshops.
Lucy Dewitt: North Fork, NY
Lucy Dewitt is a reclusive painter residing on the North Fork of Long Island. Her art interest began as a child with painting that parlayed into an art history degree, and continued again after she raised her family. Drawn to bright colors and growth, Ms. Dewitt’s subject matter centers almost entirely around her garden. She is inspired by artists of the 60s including Willem DeKooning, Cy Twombly, and Robert Rauschenberg, as well as, Florine Stettheimer from the early 20th century. From recently surrounding herself with a group of contemporary artists, Lucy has developed an increased level of experimentation incorporating different materials, techniques, imagery, and writings into her oeuvre, and her works in this exhibit reflect her new working method. Ms. Dewitt is new to the exhibition circuit having had works included in two shows at Glen Hansen Studio on the North Fork – one of which was reviewed by art critic, Charles A. Riley II.

Alex Ferrone: Peconic, NY
Based on the North Fork of Long Island, Alex Ferrone has found her niche as the only female aerial photographer in the New York region photographing by helicopter. As a self-educated artist, Ferrone has had her commercial and fine art photographs published widely in regional, national, and international publications including Wine Spectator, Architectural Digest, Vanity Fair Magazine, The Wall Street Journal, and Pinhole Journal, and also featured in numerous online magazines. Ferrone has had solo and group exhibitions in galleries and museums in New York, Texas, Florida, and in Italy. Her works are held in various private collections in the United States, Italy and France.
Richard Gardner: Huntington, NY
With roots grounded in beauty from decades as a hairstylist, make-up artist, and fine art photographer, Richard Gardner continues to document the perceived reality of beauty within the current zeitgeist. A self-taught photographer, Mr. Gardner has furthered his photographic education with various courses at both International Center of Photography (ICP) in Manhattan and at the Center of Photography at Woodstock. Honorably, Gardner’s hand-colored images have been used as part of the course curriculum at ICP and he was also chosen as one of Long Island Pulse Magazine’s V.I.P. Artists. Major influences for Mr. Gardner include celebrated fashion photographer, Sarah Moon and Surrealist artist, Man Ray. Gardner is a current Member of SohoPhoto Gallery in New York City and fotofoto Gallery in Huntington.
Ray Germann: Ridge, NY
Award-winning fine art photographer Ray Germann has been documenting New York City for over 35 years, including street scenes, people, and architectural sites. Photographing mainly in black & white, Germann’s twenty-five years of experience working in the traditional black & white darkroom helps him produce digital prints today with a similar look and quality to the darkroom papers of old. Ray’s work has been exhibited extensively in galleries and is part of several permanent museum collections including The Heckscher Museum of Art and Museum of the City of New York. Ray also has over 300 photographs officially catalogued with New-York Historical Society and is included in their book titled, “Treasures of The New-York Historical Society.” Additional photographic projects include documenting landscapes and small towns of New York’s Fingerlake and Adirondack regions, New England, and the American West.
Gerry Giliberti: East Hampton, NY
A long-time Springs, East Hampton resident, Gerry Giliberti is a print-based photographic artist who uses graphics, photography, and sculpture to create abstract, surrealistic images and constructions that bring the viewer into a new visual world. Giliberti’s classical Fine Arts education included specialized printmaking, photography, sculpture, and painting, along with illustration, etching, and archival photographic processing techniques all laid the foundation for his unique ability to see simple images among complex textures. He is a member of numerous professional and art organizations including East End Photographers Group, East Hampton Artists Alliance, and Springs Improvement Society. Gerry Giliberti’s award-winning work has been exhibited in numerous galleries and museums and is part of many private collections.
Katherine Liepe-Levinson: Forest Hills, NY
Trained at the International Center for Photography (ICP) in New York City, Katherine Liepe-Levinson’s work has been displayed on journal, magazine, and book covers, and her photography has been represented at venues in major art fairs including at The Other Art Fair, Brooklyn, Art Miami, Art Basel, and Wynwood Art. Katherine continues to exhibit her award-winning fine art photography on Long Island and in New York galleries including Guild Hall, Alex Ferrone Gallery, and RJD Gallery, as well as, Quogue Historical Society, and Rosalie Dimon Gallery. In addition to photography, Katherine has worked as a professional dancer and actor on and off Broadway, and she holds a PhD in Theatre from the Graduate School, CUNY.
Mike McLaughlin: New York, NY
Residing in Manhattan and the east end of Long Island, fine art photographer Mike McLaughlin was initially self-taught and then developed his photographic skills through course work at International Center of Photography in New York City. Recently retired from a career as a research analyst, McLaughlin’s quantitative background and his passion for modern architecture has informed his approach to both composition and post-processing technique. Inspired by architectural icons like Mies van der Rohe and Walter Gropius, Mike’s work is characterized by a clean style and purity of form. McLaughlin’s photographs have been shown in solo and group exhibitions in the New York region including The Heckscher Museum of Art, Garrison Art Center, George Billis Gallery, and Art League of LI, among others. Accolades for his work include prestigious awards from Salmagundi Club, East Hampton’s Guild Hall, and East End Arts.
Barbara Macklowe: New York, NY
As a master gardener and owner of Macklowe Gallery antiques in Manhattan, Barbara Macklowe references nature, paintings, and art objects for her photographic pursuits. Stimulated by color, light and form, Barbara creates her painterly abstractions by photographing double and multiple-exposure images in-camera. Initially self-taught, Ms. Macklowe furthered her photographic education with completed course work from Santa Fe Workshops, Maine Photographic Workshops, and International Center of Photography (ICP). Barbara has been actively pursuing photography and exhibiting since 2000 at galleries including Lawrence Fine Art Gallery in East Hampton, Horticultural Society of New York, Armory Arts Center and Palm Beach Jewelry Art & Antiques Shows in Florida. Published by Papadakis, Barbara’s book, “India in My Eyes” is a personal visual journey from her travels there. Her works are in private collections worldwide.
Robert Mielenhausen: Oakdale, NY
Born in Brooklyn, New York, artist Robert Mielenhausen earned a BFA and Masters in Studio Art from New York Institute of Technology. As a graduate student at Adelphi University, Mielenhausen studied with Richard Vaux and assisted Milton Goldstein in printmaking before teaching art and art history at Southampton High School until retiring in 2006. Mielenhausen’s works explore the convergence of photography with representational painting and reside in numerous private, corporate and educational institution collections including The Standard Motor Company, Daytona College, and Adelphi University, among others. His work has been reviewed and published in the New York Times, Lumina Journal of Sarah Lawrence College and AM New York Magazine. Exhibition highlights include OK Harris Works of Art, Onward Gallery Tokyo, Amsterdam Whitney International Fine Art, and Project ARTspace among additional venues. Robert lives on the south shore of Long Island where he works and maintains his studio.
Jim Sabiston: Bay Shore, NY
An award-winning photographer based on Long Island, Jim Sabiston’s photographs integrate his backgrounds in both painting and photography, resulting in works that combine elements of both mediums. Photographic giants such as Stieglitz and Steichen, as well as painters such as Andrew Wyeth influence Jim as he uses post-processing techniques to blend the two ideas. Jim’s works have received awards from National Geographic Explorer magazine, the Adirondack Mountain Club, the Islip Arts Council, Gallery North, and East End Arts among others. His works have been published in various books and magazines and are part of a number of private collections.
Steven Schreiber: Flanders, NY
With a background in interior and landscape design, Steven Schreiber is an award-winning photographer from eastern Long Island who has found a personal approach to visual textures and colors that are the signature of his work. Mr. Schreiber has exhibited his works at Alex Ferrone Gallery, East End Arts, Karen Mannix Contemporary Gallery, and The South Street Gallery among others. He has won several awards including from Guild Hall and Remsenburg Academy and has been selected for various juried exhibitions. Steven has also received recognition for curating various photography exhibitions for East End Arts at Southampton Cultural Center.
Mac Titmus: Coram, NY
Bridging the worlds of reality and imagination, Long Island based artist Mac Titmus melds the techniques of digital art and classic photography – creating what he refers to as “Interpretative Photography”. A graduate of Adelphi University with a BA and MA in humanities, Mr. Titmus has worked in education and photography for over 40 years. His many creative accolades include awards from Hutchins Gallery, Brookville; Fusion Arts Digital & Photography; and Aces Art Magazine, among others. Currently the Vice-President of the North Shore Art Guild, his creative and professional affiliations are many including numerous Long Island arts councils, the Art League of Long Island, and National Association of Photoshop Professionals.
Pamela Waldroup: Kings Park, NY
Originally from the Midwest and now residing in Kings Park, artist Pamela Waldroup earned her BFA from Ohio University and an MA from Long Island University. Studying with master artist, Stan Brodsky, and master printmaker, Dan Welden, inspired Waldroup’s transition to fine art photography as her primary media over the years. Her keen investigation of exaggerated angles and juxtaposition of elements, combined with dramatic light and shadow is found throughout her work. Recently retired from teaching darkroom, digital photography, and fine arts, Waldroup actively exhibits her works in galleries and museums in the region including: Salmagundi Club and 440 Gallery in NYC, Mills Pond House Gallery, and The Heckscher Museum of Art, among others. Accolades include awards for her works from Alex Ferrone Gallery, East End Arts, and Mills Pond House Gallery. Waldroup is an exhibiting member of the National Association of Women Artists in NYC and fotofoto Gallery in Huntington, NY.
