Typically I write about many fun things (and will, of course, never rob you of dope events), but will be throwing in some professional workshops or info sessions along the way. There’s a balance in all we do and the fun things are fab, but some people prefer more balance and to enjoy the social yet professional networking available. These valuable connections could be catalysts for milestones in our careers and lives. Wellness, meditation, relaxation are necessary all year around. The first time I went to the Guggenheim Museum was with my friend Thom, an international student from Austria, to see some fancy art when I was a freshman in college. With no idea of who Mark Rothko was, we paid a million dollars in student money to wander aimlessly looking at circles and lines. We made fun of every single painting. “Oh, look! Another red circle on top of a yellow rectangle, but now the blue box is green! How exciting!” Of course typing this, I’m both cringing and giggling with pure evil satisfaction by how obnoxious we must’ve…
All relationships come with promise. Mine to you is to provide the smallest insight to some of the coolest things I wish we were doing. (Not necessarily together, altho I like to think I’m good company.) June rolled up on us and so confused because it feels like April with this silly humid rain. In the great words of Regina George: BOO WHORE. Excited for the happy, sunny, end of baby summer events. June is about welcoming summer, complaining it’s too grossly hot, outdoor everything from movies, concerts, beer fests, and dining, and celebration of LGBTQ+ pride! The world is…
When I went in search of Calls for Submissions, I discovered a colorful online gallery where talented artists are proudly publicized in monthly themed exhibits. Since then, the J. Mane Gallery challenges me to live a creative life, making decisions leading my way toward extraordinary expressions I wasn’t aware I was capable of producing. Making a conscious decision to pursue photography was initially based on a combination of crazy life circumstances and already wanting to redefine my entire existence. Their call for submissions was a ginormous step to build confidence within an industry I’m passionate about and motivates me to…
John is always telling me to just write my stories. I don’t think people ever believe half of what I’m telling them, there seems to always be weird shit happening to people, the same who have asked me to write about them for as long as I can remember. When I started out as a kid in middle school, nothing could stop me from finding a brave voice in poetry and short stories, nobody could shut up its defiant expression about everything ranging from best bands to politics, but when I sit down these days, uncertainty of what you’d find…

It’s funny I felt inspired to draft this post about visual artist and best friend for life Luisa Baptista because while I tried to pick which Lu story to share, she tagged me on IG when she posted a photo I took of her back in 2000. That photo, I’m mostly sure (approx: 95% certainty), was taken May or June of 2000. I was still developing all my own black & white film then, it was right before we were Resident Advisors for EF International School, and there was some sort of chill afternoon performance or something cool happening right…
Over on Frost Street lives a snug lil art library with thousands of sketchbooks describing the most wondrous global expeditions, the worst rainy day coffee dates, and all sorts of advice on how to live off a few dollars in big expensive cities. There are so many wise folk disguised as artists in those stacks eager to share their messages of hope, despair, shame, and pure glee, throwing out enriching ideas left in the open to be fleshed out by the next participant. It’s majestic to watch something transform so harmoniously as it passes through the hands of so many…
