“Within a few minutes, he twisted the crowd like only a professional can when he hit about 300 beats per minute. This raised the intensity on the dance floor and everyone started bouncing around to the incessant beats. “
New York-born and Colombian-raised DJ, producer, remixer, and label owner Erick Morillo has come to The Emporium! Another Ibiza-worthy artist made the trek eastward to Patchogue, Long Island and Morillo flat-out rocked the house!
As the clock struck midnight, a spotlight appeared and a short dark-haired man welcomed us to the Emporium. He introduced himself as Erick Morillo before apologizing for a no-show concert that occurred on June 5 and just abused our eardrums for next three hours! Morillo started dropping bass that would be mostly likely associated with the heaviest freight train ever! Within a few minutes, he twisted the crowd like only a professional can when he hit about 300 beats per minute. This raised the intensity on the dance floor and everyone started bouncing around to the incessant beats. Later on the crowd, who was being oppressed by the heat, gladly welcomed the ice cloud, which was shot down by the cannons on the ceiling. The ice cannon turned this 120-degree dance floor to a comfortable 70 degrees and was a welcome relief to all.
For those of you who do not know, Erick Morillo is known as the ‘Godfather of Brazilian house music’ and his career has spanned over 20 years. Remember Reggaeton’s ‘El General’ and his platinum hit ‘Muevelo?’ Morillo was the one providing the beats. Remember Reel To Real and their track ‘I like to Move It ?’ The brainchild behind Reel to Real was Erick Morillo and Mark ‘the Mad Stuntman’ Quashie. Morillo has also remixed tracks from artists like Tag Team, Crystal Waters, Basement Jaxx, Enrique Iglesias, Bob Sinclar. The Crystal Method, and even the late Whitney Houston, just to give you an example of his repertoire.
Since enjoying some commercial success, Morillo has recently reinvented himself and started Subliminal Records, which is a worldwide house label. He is also one of Ibiza’s favorite sons. He has been Pacha’s Ibiza resident DJ for the past 10+ years and they have dubbed his night ‘Subliminal Nights.’ Morillo is also one of the busiest, most popular DJs in the world and is a true foundation piece for the EDM (Electronic Dance Music.)

There was no better venue than the Emporium for this kind of show. They’re large enough to accommodate the crowd, but it is also small enough to have an intimate feel which is often lost in some newer concert halls. So next time Morillo makes a stop there, be sure you go and get lost in the beat!
