Eric Schwarz lives between Germany, Paris, and Menorca, working as a Comic Artist and Illustrator. He is also known as Comic Blues and creates awesome works of art using Lego Dots. Schawarz shared his creative process of how he uses the iconic plastic construction toy to make beautiful works of art.
LIB: What’s your inspiration behind the Lego Dots?
Schwarz: I love analog printing techniques and when I saw that you can print with LEGO and I knew I had to try it right away. I saw it on an Instagram account called Provisional Press, they make small printing presses and sell them online.
LIB: What’s your creative process for creating Lego Dots?
Schwarz: I love the restriction of the LEGO Pixels. When I have an idea or a sketch I use a pixel drawing program and try to translate the drawing to pixel art with as little pixel as possible. Then, it goes directly to the LEGO board before choosing colors.
LIB: Where is your art displayed?
Schwarz: I had exhibitions in Germany, Paris, and Menorca. Online you can find me on Instagram @comicblues or on my website eric@ericscomics.com.
LIB: What’s next for Comic Blues?
Schwarz: I am working on two new books right now. One is a collection of web comics and the other one is a black and white fairytale. I hope to finish both this year and then I hope to find a good publisher who is interested in producing them.
