The Set NYC Fashion Benefit for Freedom Ladder
When and where: Holy Apostles Ballroom, Chelsea NYC on September 13, 2014
The Set NYC helped chase away the gloomy drizzle for fashionistas (and mansionistas) on Saturday night, hosting the last of a two-part runway presentation during New York Fashion Week to benefit Freedom Ladder. A non-profit organization, FreedomLadder.org sets out to empower children worldwide using means of entertainment, pop culture and media. The evening began with Berít New York and a neo punk, cropped and miniskirted “Alt+Circuit Fall 2014” collection — a ravishing display of leather-trimmed jackets and embellished skinny tops paired with multicolor eyes and mohawk headdresses.
Multitalented artist and custom clothing designer Kristin Costa brought forward the “Lost Girls” runway show filled with whimsical frocks that bounced along to the breeze of the catwalk. Fantasy updos were garnished with rose bouquets and colorful extensions. A pastel-haired lost girl – possibly a bride? – walked designer Costa down to an illustrious finale.
Vogue x Muuse Young Talent Award favorites Sarah Hoopes designed a short, albeit brilliant group of floor-skimming robes in white and silver grey. The group of 4 models clad in kimono style wraps and loose columns, brought the idea of “statuesque” to an entirely new level of glam. The last presentation of NYFW concluded with Ev Bessar’s collection “Metamorphosis”.
