Escape to happy hour

No matter how much you love your job or your classes, sometimes a long day at work or school leaves you worn to the bone and in need of a cold one or a cosmo. But if you’re anything like me, you’re not a rock star or a CEO so cost is a factor when deciding where to wet your whistle. Here are three of my favorite spots on Long Island where you can empty your mind of its troubles without emptying your wallet. Thankfully much longer than just an hour, these happy hours are the perfect escape from the daily grind.

The Nutty Irishman

The Nutty is one of my favorites. Happy hour here features two dollar domestic beers and three dollar imports, and half-off wine and mixed drinks. In addition, the Nutty offers attractive daily specials ranging from one to two dollar pints to ten dollar all-you-can-eat wings and all-you-can-drink Bud Light, This is a great place for college students who are looking for an inexpensive meal and a drink or two to wash it down.

And in case you just have to mix work and pleasure, the Nutty is also a WiFi Hotspot! The Nutty Irishman boasts two locations on Long Island for your enjoyment and convenience.

Miller’s Ale House

Truth be told, I spent my fair share of college nights at Miller’s. They have a good selection of beers and ales on tap as well as a wide variety of bottled beers. My favorite happy hour special at Miller’s is the beer bucket, which is perfect if you’re hanging out with a group. At just under eight dollars for five bottles, the beer bucket can quench a whole lot of thirst without leaving you or your friends broke.

Miller’s has locations in Deer Park and Levittown and both offer numerous daily specials that include discounted prices on beer, liquor, shots and mixed drinks. And the best part is, your friends will love Miller’s so much they may even buy your drinks!

Black Forest Brew Haus

This brewpub is different because the only beer they serve is Black Forest. I thoroughly enjoy all five of their varieties which are Pilsner, Amber, Hefe-Weizen, Oatmeal Stout, and H.E. Double Hockey Sticks-Helles Lager. Black Forest Brew Haus also has an impressive selection of food, but the best part is the happy hour which offers three dollar beer, wine and mixed drinks. Fridays draw the crowds with a free buffet from 3–6pm to go along with those great happy hour prices. If you are ever around Farmingdale, Black Forest is definitely worth a stop.

When you can barely keep your head above water and the only thing that will lift your spirits is a splash of liquid magic, stretch your dollars at one of these Long Island happy hours and watch your worries float away. At least until the next morning.
