Legend John Starks helps dedicate the “Mason Court”

By John Milovcic on May 22, 2015 Sports

When I think of the New York Knicks I don’t think of the present day team. No offense but I’m not getting excited about Jose Calderon. I’m partial to the days of Patrick Ewing, Charles Oakley, Anthony Mason and John Starks. These were my guys.

Early 90s basketball was fun. It had a WWE feel to it. The “bad guys” were the Pistons, the Bulls, the Heat even the Pacers. There was no more hated player than Reggie Miller except his airness. Starks and Mason stamped that era as a defense first, physical style game that I miss.

Earlier this year I lost one of my childhood heroes. Anthony Mason was taken far to early due to a heart condition. The Merrick Academy, a charter school, in Springfield Garden dedicated their court to the memory of Mason. It will be known going forward as the “Mason Court.”

LIB Magazine was at the dedication and met with John Starks along with two of Anthony Mason’ son, Antoine and Anthony Jr.
