Think back. Remember March 13th? It feels like a lifetime ago. Our collective lives have changed… Not for the better. Who knew that Friday the thirteenth would have been our last normal day in our life. Covid 19 changed our life drastically.
It’s fast approaching 4 months since we heard of wearing masks or the term Social Distancing became part of our daily vernacular. It’s been four long months, and there is no real end in sight. We still haven’t gotten our arms completely around this. We are still in wave 1, part I don’t know 5? We still haven’t gotten our arms around this!!
Luckily, locally we have leadership that believes doctors and science. I hated quarantine, I hate distancing, I’m not a fan of masks… But I am a big fan of BEING ALIVE without CORONA! The Boro I grew up in, Queens was decimated. People old and young died in droves. I hear people say the numbers are fake. Ok. Sure. If that’s your opinion enjoy it. I would rather listen to the professionals.
Quick aside. One of my best friends aunt’s had a stroke during the pandemic. From their Middle Village home, the fastest ride to a hospital was Elmhurst. Elmhurst was ground zero for the epidemic. They could not get her in the hospital. Mike’s aunt passed. Yes it might not have been Covid related, but Covid played a part. Worst part is, she has a young family. Two kids in High School young. Her family can not collect hazard pay, as she was a City employee, because it’s technically not Covid. I think that’s wrong.
There have a lot of politicized topics in the past couple of years. Yes there were topics forever, but lately more seem to come up. The topic of mask wearing is a stupid stance. Just wear it! Save someone else’s life, save your own! In all honesty, if a Democrat was in office the conservative wing would have lost their minds! Ebola happened under the Obama administration. A grand total of 2 people lost their lives. Benghazi- yes it was awful but only 4. The current US number is over 130,000 people. Where is the outrage?
The point here is just be smart and safe. I really want to see your smiling face one day. I want to crack open a cold beer with you one day.
Friday, March 13th, will live on infamy.
