    Q&A with RallyB Art

By Lauren Jablonski on November 20, 2023 Art & Music
Ralph Burrows, commonly known as RallyB is an artist and a sculptor from Queens, NY. He has a brand called “RallyB Art” which showcases his artworks that are based on pop culture. He does illustrations, paintings, portraits, and makes handmade figurines out of paper, called “Rally Figures”.
LIB: How did you get into making figurines and sculpting?
Burrows: I have been creating figurines since I was young. As a kid, I grew up watching characters on TV shows and movies based on comics, video games, etc. I was very influenced by it so I would make them. I would use aluminum foil, paper, and glue to start creating small figurines in my room. I was never taught this, I was self taught. It was more of a hobby for me because I would make figures just to play with them but I grew out of it as I got older so I stopped. Later on in my life I started going to conventions to showcase my artworks, I thought of making figurines again to show people something different and unique. Once I started showcasing my figurines a few years ago, people have praised my work and I’ve been getting a lot of exposure. Ever since then, I’ve been enjoying creating figurines consistently and staying on my purpose.
LIB: What is your creative process?
Burrows: It’s whatever pops up in my mind what I want to create and think of some ideas on how I’m going to create a figure. I’ll think about how I want the figure to be posed and start using materials on creating the figure. It’ll take me hours, days or about a week to create a figure depending on the size or what I’m adding to the figure. It’s really time consuming because it’s made out of paper, so it takes me a while to get these figurines done.
LIB: What is your favorite piece that you’ve created and why?
Well maybe my favorite I created this year is the Violator from Spawn. I got real creative on making the figure. It looks exactly the same from the comics, I had an idea on how I want to create the figure and make it into reality. The way the figure is detailed looks like an actual toy, pretty much all my figures do. When people see my figures they would be surprised it was made out of paper, a lot of times people think they’re toys, clays sculptures, plastic, or 3D printed. I like all of my figures but the Violator figure would be my favorite so far.
LIB: Where are your sculptures displayed?
Burrows: My figures are displayed on my Instagram @rallyb.art and my website at www.rallyb.art. I also have a YouTube channel called RallyB_Art where I will show my work there soon. I’ll be at art shows and conventions where I displayed my figures and other artworks.
LIB: What’s next for RallyB Art?
Burrows: I will continue to create more artworks, showcasing my work through my platforms and attending conventions to get my name out. Showing people my unique talent of artworks for them to enjoy and to be inspired.
