If you weren’t at Nikon Jones Beach Theatre on August 7, you missed more than a beautiful blue sky and warm weather. As is custom during the summer months, Jones Beach is usually home to daily performances highlighting upcoming artists of every age. August 7th saw a talented group of singers perform for an upbeat Long Island crowd. Amongst the acts was fellow Long Islander Jenna Rose. Haven’t heard of the blossoming star? Don’t worry, LIB Magazine has the scoop.
Jenna Rose Swerdlow—or simply Jenna Rose as she prefers to be called—is a 15 year old singer who rose to fame with her viral hit, “My Jeans.” Released in 2010, Jenna Rose was quickly met with fans and critics alike, many who compared her to YouTube predecessor Rebecca Black. Her next single, “O.M.G.” failed to resonate with critics and the YouTube community. However, this past week’s performance saw a different side to the young singer and we couldn’t help but be amazed.
Displaying a beautiful vocal range, Jenna’s previous musical training was evident in every song. Heartfelt and emotive, Jenna Rose was a completely different person than her 12 year old self. Her engagement with the crowd was a characteristic of her showmanship that any seasoned performer would praise. Charismatic and professional, Jenna Rose is well on her way to an artistic transformation. While we would like to see her perform newly written singles or tracks, her renditions of songs like “Problem,” by Ariana Grande and “Fancy,” by Iggy Azalea were still fun and entertaining.
Take it from us, the world will definitely be seeing more from this rising young star.
