To Mr. and Mrs. Carter (a couple also known as Beyoncé and Jay-Z) there is a level of expectation to be objectified in the media. For Jay-Z and Beyoncé, their lavish, highly-publicized lifestyle became extremely scrutinized, interpreted and re-interpreted. For fans, followers and haters who are gobbling up the divorce rumors and secretly cheering on the breakup, I have news for you. Hov and Queen Bae managed to turn the hippodrome of separation rumors into fueling their careers into celestial trajectory.
- We Became Voyeurs – Before the On the Run Tour and the Elevator incident with Solange we never heard or seen them together. You needed a cryptogram to read their body language to make sure you didn’t miss any signal that they still had interest in their partnership. In the name of secrecy, they remained private. Now that the tabloids have started an amaranthine assault on the two megastars it seems the public can’t get enough. Every tabloid, newspaper, magazine and online blog has the “inside scoop” on the rumors. According to the US Census Bureau, a divorce occurs every 36 seconds. Since misery loves company I can see why some are rooting for the split.
- A Loving Family – Since rumors of the Jay/Bae divorce became water cooler talk at every 9 – 5 in America, the Carters have posted more pictures of them together than ever before in their six years of marriage – whether it’s to counter the hearsay, or they really want you to see that they are a happily married couple. The two Carters have given us an intramural insight into their household.
- Career Boost – It seems that the rumor some haters feel is inevitable )that Jay-Z and Beyoncé will one day get divorced) has helped both of these artists. Their On the Run Tour ended, bringing a whopping $100 million in ticket sales in 19 shows. Their crowd beat out the Rolling Stones and kept capacity above 90%. Not to mention, Beyoncé has another award to place on her mantle. Queen Bae will be honored with the Lifetime Achievement Award from MTV at this year’s VMA’s. This award has been given to Michael Jackson, Britney Spears and Justin Timberlake. I assume Jay-Z will be in the building that night wishing his wife the best
- It’s Good for Business – Jay-Z and Beyoncé are still great brands to be associated with. The two have more joint ventures than an octopus has hands. Even not having a partnership is pretty damn good. According to Rachel Pfeffer design jewelry, they got triple the sales and 40 times the online traffic. All because Beyoncé posted a picture of a necklace that resembles jewelry sold in Pfeffer’s online shop. Jay is prepping up sales for his new drink 40/40 that will be sold Walgreens and Duane Reade stores nationwide.
Divorce can be messy, but divorce rumors are not always a bad thing. In the case of the Carters, they have thrived off of these misguided accusations. Not all couples survive being under a microscope with constant negative attention, but I tip my hat to them.
