Long Island Craft Beer Week (LICBW) is a great time to sample and enjoy local Long Island Beers. Even though it was raining Saturday morning, the sky cleared up and the sun was shinning just in time for one of the largest LICBW events, Bay Fest. Local breweries and brewing clubs, food trucks, radio stations, cigars all had booths outside for this event.  Bay Fest was not overcrowded; it was well organized, and had great craft beer selections.

The Great South Bay Brewery had the tasting room open inside as well as kegs outside. My favorite summer beer combination from The Great South Bay Brewery is the “Bloody Blonde” (half blonde ambition and half blood orange pale ale.) Their Hog Cabin bacon beer is also a must and goes perfectly with summer BBQ. Definitely make a trip to The Great South Bay Brewery there is large variety of great beers to sample.

Oyster Bay Summer Ale is brewed with lemon zest and seeds of paradise. This beer is light and refreshing and stands out from other summer beers. Hand Grenades Homebrew Club created a beer called Nit Wit Summer with tangerine, grapefruit, coriander, and cloves. These fruity and spicy notes are uniquely blended and sure to please the palette. Lessing’s Local Blonde is an easy drinking summer beer, perfect for local Long Island blondes like myself!

Brickhouse Brewery was handing out free pirate eye patches and their Keelhauled Pirate Porter. This porter is brewed with cinnamon, molasses raisins and a hint of chocolate. This beer tastes rum raisin ice cream and is 8.3% ABV; sweet, strong, and worth walking the plank for!

If you missed this LICBW event make sure you visit some of the local Long Island breweries during tasting hours to sample their handcrafted pints of perfection!
