Familiarly breeds comfort. Much like heavy starchy foods are considered “comfort food,” freestyle music and older Rhythm and Blues is what I consider “comfort music.” This form of music lends itself to being able to sing along to, dance to and just groove to. Deborah Cox added the vocals to this magical night.
As this Friday night slowly made it’s trek to Saturday morning, Cox took the stage at Long Island’s premiere nightclub The Emporium. This club, set in the jewel of the South Shore, Patchogue, welcomed the 40 year old vocalist with open arms. The bright lights made her all white outfit glow angelically. I have never seen anyone dance that much with 6 inch heels before.
After singing a few songs, both her own and some covers, she belted out a version of Whitney Houston’s I Will Always Love You. Her rendition was different than Houston’s- like we expected, but Cox owned it. She made it her own. Cox is reported to provide vocals for a biopic dedicated to Houston slated for later on this year.
The Emporium is magical. The sunken dance floor gives the impression of being intimate but the space is enormous. The sight lines are fabulous, and the Emporium staff is bringing fantastic talent to our little Patchogue. Slated to appear in the next couple of weeks, are DJ Theo tonight May 9th, Snoop Dog on the 14th, even DMX over the summer! Check out their Instagram (EmporiumLI) for full list of events.
