    Fugoo Tough: The Review

    0
By Ray Gruenfelder on February 21, 2015 Tech & Gaming

Fugoo Tough Bluetooth speakers may not be a name you have heard of yet but you should get to know them. Right up there with the Bose, UE, or Jawbone speakers, the Fugoo Tough adds 360 degree stereo sound and a incredible 40 hour battery. This is definitely the new top dog in my house when it comes to portable speakers, especially if I want to actually go anywhere interesting with my portable speaker.

This Fugoo Tough is made of a fiber-reinforced resin and solid aluminum. The very masculine shell protects your speaker from whatever your world throws at it. The resilient end-caps take impacts on all eight corners while steel mesh protects the drivers on the sides. The mounting socket on the underside accepts the additional bike strap or multi-mount accessories or you can use the slip-resistant aluminum rods at either end to secure it with a strap, rope or anything else you can latch it on to.

The speaker not only plays clean and loud, but the sound is ACCURATE while packing nice natural bass! The other guys either over-emphasize the bass sounds, which might sound OK at first, but really results in a lot of songs not sounding right at all and yet some other Bluetooth speakers I have tested, the bass is non existent.

When it comes to the durability, I can’t emphasize it enough: The water-proof, sand-proof, shock-proof, life-proof/durable design of the Fugoo Tough truly sets this speaker apart from the others. After all, what’s the point of a battery-powered portable speaker if you can’t take it places without worrying about damaging it? The Fugoo looks tough enough to survive getting drop-kicked by the WWE. Fugoo also makes 2 other models that are more for style and a little less for durability. See the image below to see how they match up.

You don’t realize how important long battery life is until you start taking your speaker with you on day trips: to the beach, the park, hiking, and so on. The Fugoo battery blew me away by lasting all day long and then some. Combining durability with a super-long battery life opens up all kinds of new possibilities. They claim the battery lasts up to 40 hours of battery life at 50 percent loudness continuous play. Using it as much as I have so far on one charge, I would say their claim is pretty spot on.

Somehow Fugoo have figured out how to make the speaker sound equally good in any direction with speakers in the front, back and on both sides. This turns out to be a really useful quality of the speaker, since you can put it in the middle of a room, and everyone will hear great sound.

I also love the accessories. My favorite is by far the Wireless, Waterproof Remote Control. ($49.99) The unique wearable Bluetooth Remote Control pairs with the speaker for control from a distance. The remote is fully waterproof and can be strapped to a wrist or worn on a lanyard (both included) so you can control the speaker from the middle of the pool without endangering your phone or tablet in the heat or water. Oh did I mention it also doubles as a beer bottle opener? Killer!

You can pick up your Fugoo Tough here ($229.99).
