Are Jaden and Willow Just Weird?

Snippets from a recent Jaden and Willow Smith  interviews have brought me to one of two  conclusions: They are the two weirdest children (er, young adults)  I have ever heard of, or they are simply misunderstood and are really ahead of their time. Either way, they make great press.

Since 2010 Willow’s Whip My Hair became an outcry of feminity and rebellion, but not too long ago she was under fire for taking a provocative picture with model Moises Arias. Airas was 20 and Willow was 13, while the picture was not sexually explicit it certainly seemed a little to grown up for Willow. Jaden can also be misinterpreted. He attended Kim Kardashian’s wedding to Kanye West wearing a batman suit and taking pictures with Kylie Jenner.

Perhaps the weirdest moment to me was when they were talking about Prana energy and babies breathing through their stomachs and having memories. It just seemed to science fiction like to me. Prana is a Sanskrit word meaning “Life Force”. It’s a term that basis a belief in energy coming from the sun and has a cosmic connection to everything in the universe. It’s pretty heavy stuff for 13 and 16 year olds. From the start of the interview when they were asked what they were reading, it seemed like they weren’t ordinary teenagers. Quantum Physics?…The Ancient Secret of the Flower of Life? What happened to the Twilight series and Harry Potter?  Call it intellectual.

Honestly, though I know they get flack for being different and they didn’t have the reality of growing up in the hood or under the circumstances that made us who we are. Maybe that’s ok and five years from now we might look back on the interview and realize that they were right about what they thought about school and breathing and Prana energy. We are only limited within the confines and constraints of our minds. Another option is we find the Smith children are equally crazy and joined a cult.

I was born in Long Branch New Jersey. During childhood I wanted to become a chef such as Bobby Flay or Martin Yen. I graduated from Johnson and Wales University in 2003 with the expectation of making a career into the foodservice industry. The dream slowly faded away after years of lusterless opportunities that only lead to more experience, but career growth. In 2007 I was hired in the telecommunications industry as a customer service representative. During these last few years the passion for writing grew as I had to learn to express myself in distinct ways. Today I am in pursuit in of a Bachelor’s degree in Journalism this year and I have a blog that has been running for a year. Also my articles have been published in two separate entertainment magazines with an established fan base. In addition to that LIB Magazine appointed their “Video of the Day,” which I search viral content that is SEO friendly. This is in addition to writing for the hip hop section of the magazine where I talk about issues within the hip hop community. I also talk about topics touch directly within the hip hop community in Long Island. I also write on my own blog about social issues and news stories that seems too unbelievable to be true.
