The sun was shining, wings were sizzling, and cold craft beer was flowing; I couldn’t picture a better way to spend a Saturday. Long Island Wing and Beer Festival at American Air Power Museum in Farmingdale was a sold out event where attendees got to sample some top-notch wings and brews while watching planes take flight.
Wings that Wowed
Rookies Sports Club in Huntington was serving up some delicious Honey BBQ wings that paired nice with several of the summer beers on tap that had a sweet honey finish.
Millers Ale House offered a variety of wings to try. I highly recommend their delicious Dr Pepper Wing and a Triple Sriracha wings if you like sweet and heat!
Even Flow Bar and Grill in Bay Shore did not compete in the festival but did donate close to 5,000 fabulous wings. Even Flow split five thousand sweet, smoky, bacon wrapped little shards of heaven to the masses.
Specialty Smokes
The Vape Station LI and Village Cigar Headquarters, sold a variety of premium cigars, e-hookahs, and juices. The Vape Station will be hosting Long Island’s first vape festival this summer July 18th and Fireman’s Memorial Park in Lindenhurst.
Local Beer & Ciders
The whose who of Long Island breweries sampled their seasonal Ales an IPA’s including Port Jeff, Blue Point, Twin Fork, Barrage Brewing, Montauk, Eclectic Ales, etc. Bluepoint Summer Ale, Montauk Summer Ale, and Point Jefferson’s Schooner Ale and White Beach Wit are make some great local summer beers.
However, my top local favorites come from Po’ Boy Brewery and Z Barrel House. Farmingdale’s Po’ Boy Brewery created two delicious summer ciders: Key Lime Pie and Cherry Blossom. Z Barrel also sampled several unique ciders, that were high ABV but smooth. My two favorite flavors were Cranberry and Ginger.
We were also impressed with Doc’s Draft Raspberry hard apple cider. It had a great raspberry taste with apple undertones. It’s a step up from a wine cooler and is the perfect for warm summer nights.
Summer Beer Picks
Curious Traveler Lemon Shandy is a great summer beer that incorporates lemon with its ale to give it a crisp, bright citrus flavor. I also loved the Wildflower Wheat from Wolaver’s in Vermont. This organic wheat beer is brewed with chamomile Flowers and honey.
