The rain did not stop hippies from dancing in the mud at Woodstock and it did not stop craft beer enthusiasts from sampling a variety of over 250 brews at Beerfields.
Over 100 different brewers attended the event including several homebrew clubs.
Brian Zimmerman from Z-Barrel’s created a Lemon Balm Wheat beer; its citrus flavor was light, crisp, and refreshing. Zimmerman also brewed a six-row beer to sample. Even though using 6-row malt for beers is viewed as taboo, there is a very little taste difference from using 2-row malt. Using Long Island six-row malt is also less expensive per pound and is great way to support local businesses.
Po’boy Brewery had a Vanilla Cupcake Cider, which tasted like dessert in a bottle. They also created Lemoncello Mint Ale, which blended these traditional Italian flavors with integrity, salute!
The Long Island Beer Enthusiasts also created a variety of beers to sample, but my favorite was the Your Momma’s Breakfast Stout, which was a French Toast flavored stout. This stouts buttery, sweet, vanilla taste would make anyone justify a way to drink this for breakfast.
Eclectic Ales, sampled their 420 Beer, which was brewed with hemp. This beer was very hoppy but easy to drink.
Make sure you try summer seasonal beers from some of our favorite Long Island breweries including Fire Island, Port Jefferson, Greenport Harbor, Oyster Bay, Saint James, Moustache, Rocky Point, Barrier Brewing, Montauk and Southampton.
