Reality Star Ryan Brunty Gets Real with LIB

The artist and founder of Depressed Monsters, Ryan Brunty, recently became a reality star after appearing on the MTV show “The Love Experiment”, a show which gives three friends the opportunity to each choose three men to date at a time. Brunty was selected by Tam as one of the men she wanted to date. He tried to woo her by staring into her eyes, bringing her breakfast, and showing off his artistic talents. Even though Brunty was eliminated, he instantly became a fan favorite.

LIB: What made you want to be on The Love Experiment? How has the show changed your life?

Brunty: During the pandemic I was extremely lonely and isolated and wanted to do something to add a little excitement to my life! A friend sent the casting call and I was feeling spontaneous and put my information in and got a call the next day! We ended up filming in Vancouver for two months and the experience was absolutely amazing. I still keep up with all the guys on the show (we have a little group chat) and Tam and Mars and I all keep up with each other on IG! Everyone involved in this show is just the best.

The show hasn’t changed my life per say, just more DMs of people wanting the inside scoop and everyone I’ve ever met watching the show along with me so that’s been interesting haha It has also made it a little easier to have conversations about partnerships!

LIB: Are you coming to New York Comic Con? If yes, any special Yerman exclusives?

Brunty: I was supposed to do a signing but instead I’ll have exclusive product at Artistic Flavorz booth! Lanyards, stickers and plush will be available and we’re growing our partnership with them going forward for more exclusive product.

LIB: Do you listen to music when you sketch?

Brunty: I do! I get heavy into albums and they become almost like a memory book of that time in my life. Gold Spike mural I was listening to LIfe of Pablo on repeat for example. Right now I’m heavy into Post Malone, Kendrick, Jack Harlow, Surf Curse, Blink182, Subhumans, Minor Threat, Lupe, etc.

LIB: Are you going to the When We Were Young Festival in Vegas?

Brunty: I don’t have any plans to but man I want to see Blink182 so bad. I love Tom Delonge!

LIB: What do you think of the new Blink182 and MXPX songs?

Brunty: I am loving the new Blink182 stuff, I’m a Tom fan and he can do no wrong. Boxcar Racer, Angels and Airwaves, I just love it!

LIB: In a Comic Con interview you said you were a cook previously in a hospital, what’s the best dish that you make?

Yeah! I paid for college by washing dishes and cooking in a hospital cafeteria. It was a wild job! I make a mean shrimp scampi.

LIB: What’s next for Depressed Monsters?
Brunty: Right now we’re bringing all production in-house and exploring more retail opportunities. Just launced at Meow Wolf! That’s exciting and we have some fun stuff coming up so stay tuned!
Be sure to stop by the Artistic Flavors booth #4553 to purchase exclusive Depressed Monsters merchandise at NYCC.
