Johnny Pump Showers – July Events

Long Island has a groovy list of exhibits this summer, including Heavy Metal: Photographs by Jan Staller at the Heckscher Museum of Art running through the end of July.

The Jazz Age exhibit comes to an end July 8th at the Nassau County Museum of Art, but no fret my pets, you will always be able to find something amazing to gaze upon on their grounds. A Mirror to Nature, a new sculpture by Marko Remec has been integrated.

David Filderman Gallery at the Hofstra University Museum is wrapping up its current exhibit at end of July. The second installation in a series of experimental visions sounds rather creative; a commercial press used for fine prints. Artists include Chuck Close, John Moore, Olga Moore, Italo Scanga, Salvatore Scarpitta, and Miriam Schapiro, to name a few.

Huntington Arts Council has a vibrant calendar of events! Do not miss out on these! Their website highlights artists and offers programs for everyone and anyone. Their call for artists might interest you. “WEARABLE ART: “Art is not limited to gallery walls. See it, wear it, live it!” –Dominique Maciejka, Juror, Juried Exhibition will run through August 24th – September 15th, 2018. Deadline July 16th”

Islip Art Museum awaits your company and invites you for tea time. Sei Ryun Chun is a Jersey artist bringing the beauty of Korean tea to Long Island.

The Long Island Museum is pleased to present exhibits that are more historical to the isle. Their mission is very much to preserve and present the foundations of our area.

The Long Island Photo Gallery presents an exhibit of black & white photographs throughout the summer. They are pleased to offer everything from photography workshops to providing custom framing for those of us submitting and waiting for acceptance.

Chelsea neighborhood has a ton of incredible galleries to pop in and out of any day, just wander over from the High Line and follow the crowds in and out of exciting opening nights!

David Zwirner has an interactive art exhibit running through July.

Metro Pictures Gallery is premiering a new performance w/ sculpture exhibit with artists Hanne Lippard & Nora Turato, the third installment in a series.

Last month, artist Luisa Baptista invited me to accompany her to view the Brian Kirhagis exhibit E.A.R.T.H. at the Dean Borghi Fine Art gallery. If you have never seen Kirhagis’ work with your own eyes, you are missing out on some serious talent. The details are breath-taking. His work has a vulnerability and purity I have not seen.

If you haven’t already had a chance to check out the Marilyn Artus patriotic piece in the group show In Her Hands at the Robert Mann Gallery, go and enjoy yourself! Mixed media creates mixed emotions, gets you thinking about the whys and hows.

Onishi Gallery is currently showing some of the most remarkable photography exhibits. They’re thought-provoking, inspiring, and mesmerizing. As a photographer, I could stare at these exhibits for days.

Aside from all the art stuff, here is more amazing things to do in July around NYC, Long Island, and even some from neighboring states! (I just have to let you know about these clam bakes, otherwise you might wonder why I would hold out on you.)

Big aLICe Brewing Company and Finback Brewery are keeping your pallets dancing with varieties of craft beer. Drop in to say hi!

Forest Hills Stadium has a great list of shows this summer.

East River Park has a lot of events to participate with your friends and family, complete with a view of their gorgeous waterfront.

Free outdoor movies all summer, all over. Azul Rooftop Cinema Nights. Bryant Park Movie Nights. NYC Parks & Rec. Even Ridgewood now has a spot for those of us who don’t always feel like taking public transportation. Do not forget about Summer on the Hudson!

Free QiGong and Tai Chi all summer at Bryant Park. Tuesdays & Thursdays bright and early at 7:30 A.M.

Call for Submissions at the Blue Door Art Center! July 6 deadline to submit your work for the theme Summer Breeze. The next exhibit is a photography submission themed Clicks. Become a member today and start submitting your work! (I DID! Wish me luck!)

Last, but certainly not least, let’s not forget our friends at The Powerlab in Yonkers, educating and empowering artists to work for commercial success. Build up.
