When national talent comes to Long Island, local artist can benefit. Plainview rapper Steven Adam Markowitz (known by his stage name as Hoodie Allen) was the opening act for the Boys of Zummer Tour. Makowitz grew up listening to Long Island bands including Taking Back Sunday, Brand New, and The Movielife and was happy to show the audience some local love during his set.

Wiz Khalifa played his chart toppers including Work Hard, Play Hard, Young Wild & Free and See You Again. Khalifa even threw two giant inflatable joints into the pit during his set instead of beach balls.

DSC_0032Next, Surprise guest Travie McCoy took the stage and performed his 2010 throwback Billionaire before Fall Out Boy took the stage. Fall Out Boy played a solid set, which included a mix of both new and old songs. Even though Fall Out Boy has been around since 2001, The Boys of Zummer tour drew a young crowd because of their mainstream popularity. In the early 2000’s, Fall Out Boy played the Downtown in Farmingdale and even had a meet and greet in the coat check room! Fall Out Boy closed their set with Saturday from their Take It To Your Grave album, however most of the audience was unfamiliar with that song and just sang along to their radio hits.

The concert musically was tight, however, the media just seemed to focus on the underage drinking problem, but what do you expect when a pharmaceutical cowboy and a notorious pothead join forces? Hopefully state park police and parents will work together to ensure minors safety for future events.
